What this looks up
The address you enter is resolved against the same third-party geolocation database the paid /v1/lookup endpoint uses. Results can include country, city, approximate coordinates, ASN, and the same computed currency/compliance/locale/sun/holiday/age/tax fields GET /v1/geo returns, when a database record exists. The subdivision name (region) and postal code are resolved separately from a compiled GeoNames index, and timezone is computed from coordinates rather than read from that source directly.
What "not found" means
A missing result usually means the address has no matching database record, but it can also mean the backing database was temporarily unavailable. Treat "not found" as inconclusive, not as proof the address has no location data.
What this tool cannot tell you
Lookup results describe a network address, not a person — they cannot confirm identity, a street address, or who is using a device. This tool does not detect VPNs, proxies, or other network risk signals; that is a separate, plan-gated capability of the visitor geolocation and risk APIs, not part of IP lookup.
Frequently asked questions
Can I look up any IP address, including someone else's?
This tool returns publicly available approximate location data for any syntactically valid IPv4 or IPv6 address. It does not return a person's name, exact address, or identity, and you should only look up addresses you're authorized to investigate.
Why did my lookup get rate-limited?
This tool uses one shared server-side key so no signup is required to try it. That key has a rate limit shared across every visitor. Create your own secret key from the dashboard to call the API directly without sharing a limit.
Does this include the same fields as visitor geolocation?
No. Lookup returns country, region, city, and coordinates from the third-party geolocation database only — it does not include ASN, currency, timezone, or security fields, which are specific to the browser-facing visitor geolocation endpoint.
Can I look up more than one address at a time?
This tool only supports one address per request. The bulk lookup API accepts up to 100 addresses in a single backend call.
